Thomas hired

as new UMPI safety and security coordinator

PRESQUE ISLE — Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle have announced that Fred Thomas has been hired as the university’s new coordinator of safety and security.

Thomas has about 33 years of experience working for the Maine State Police in law and liquor enforcement.

He retired from that post in August and joins the UMPI community in time for the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year.

Thomas’ work will focus on ensuring the health and safety of students, staff, faculty and their guests on campus, overseeing campus parking matters and serving as a liaison between campus and local law enforcement officials. Thomas replaces Greg Daniels, who served as the University’s safety and security coordinator for 17 years before retiring in late August.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Fred to campus and to have someone with his level of experience on board,” Vice President for Administration and Finance Charles Bonin said. “We wish Greg well in his retirement and look forward to working with Fred on campus safety and security matters. He’s going to be a great addition to campus.”
