Club plans landowner appreciation barbecue

    The Mars Hill ATV Club is holding a thank-you BBQ on Sunday, Sept. 16, to thank the local landowners for allowing the club to travel on the trails that cross their land. It will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the Blaine Country Cabins. This was rescheduled from Sept. 9 due to expected rainy weather.

Harvest rec schedule

    The Mars Hill Recreation Department will hold a number of special activities during harvest break. Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, Sept. 12. Payment should be made at the time of registration with checks made payable to the Town of Mars Hill.

    There will be a Safe Sitter Course offered through the Northern Lighthouse on Mondays during harvest break covering a variety of topics. Classes will take place at the Rec Center on Mondays, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and  8 from 9 a.m. to noon.

    The following programs are offered to children in grades 1 and older. Children age 4 and older may participate with a parent or guardian present. Children are responsible for a bag lunch and drink every day unless otherwise noted. The following programs take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center, unless otherwise noted.

    Week one, Sept. 17-21, will include a Day Trip to the SAD 1 School Farm and Mantle Lake Park on Tuesday, Sept.18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $3 each. Participants should wear socks and sneakers and bring a sweatshirt. All participants must bring a bag lunch. There will be a hay ride, a corn maze and more. At Mantle will be lunch and hiking the trails. Tuesday afternoon the grade 3 and 4 soccer team will practice at CAHS at 2:45 p.m. and the grade 1 and 2 soccer team will play Easton at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, will feature Zumbatonics with Theressa Bonner from 9-10 a.m. Cost is $10 for three weekly sessions. From 10-11 a.m. will be a free Story Time with Sue McPherson before bag lunches are eaten at 11 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., participants will leave for Wintergreen Arts Center for Art at Wintergreen from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost for this is $10 per child. They will return to the Rec to be picked up at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon the grade 1 and 2 soccer team will practice at CAHS at 5 and the grade 3 and 4 soccer team will play at Limestone at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, will feature Science Camp from 9-11 a.m. at a cost of $3. Dress for a mess! Bag lunches will be eaten at 11 a.m. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.will be a free Survivor Experience with the Northern Lighthouse and Cory Tilley.

    All participants are asked to purchase a Rec T-shirt. It is helpful on field trips if everyone is wearing matching shirts. These will be the same shirts used in the 2013 summer program.       Mars Hill firefighters and family members gathered for a photo op, after the department won top honors at this year’s Firemen’s Muster, hosted by Washburn Fire Department in conjunction with August Festival. Rotary Club

    The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Sept. 4, at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Rotarian Steve Hitchcock, who presented a photo collage of Rotary activities.

    Upcoming events for the week of Sept. 12-18 include: Wednesday will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Zumba Fitness at 9:30 a.m. and Crossword Puzzles at 1:30 p.m. Thursday has the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Karaoke with Fireman Fred at 1:30 p.m. and the Bridgewater Full Gospel Assembly at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, will feature Moving To Music at 9:30 a.m. and Karaoke with Larry at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will be a free day. Sunday will feature the Full Gospel Assembly at 3 p.m. Monday will feature a Walmart outing at 9 a.m., Communion with Pastor Palmer at 1:30 p.m. and Gospel Group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change. Homecoming 2013 meeting

    There will be a meeting on Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in the high school Music Room, for all of the class representatives for ACI and CAHS for planning purposes for the ACI, CAHS Homecoming next summer. Anyone else who is interested please plan to attend.

 

Bridgewater Music

    The Bridgewater Historical Association offers live music by Outside In on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. They perform a wide variety of music styles. Bring your dancing shoes and show your moves on the center’s wood dance floor. There is no cover charge, however, donations are greatly appreciated. The musicians are all volunteers who donate their time and talents for you to enjoy, making it possible for all proceeds to go directly to the BHA. They too are greatly appreciated. Refreshments are available on music nights.

 

Community Cupboard

    The food pantry serves the communities of Westfield, Mars Hill, Blaine, Robinson, E-Plantation and Bridgewater. The cupboard is open the second Tuesday of each month from 1-3 p.m. and the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community.
