PRESQUE ISLE — A fundraiser is planned this weekend to benefit a nonprofit agency that provides free flights to patients in need of care at facilities elsewhere in the state or out of state.
“On Friday, Oct. 19, a fundraiser to benefit Angel Flight Northeast will be held at the Crow’s Nest in Presque Isle, featuring the music of Wally & the Virginians,” said organizer Lori-Ann Chandler.
Angel Flight Northeast is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that, through a volunteer network of pilots, provides free air transportation to patients and their families needing to travel for medical treatment. The service is provided free to those whose financial resources or when other compelling reasons make it difficult or prohibitive for them to receive much-needed medical care.
“A two-hour social will run from 6-8 p.m. Wally & the Virginians will be providing entertainment from 8 p.m. to midnight. A silent auction, raffle items, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar will be available,” said Chandler.
Founded in 1996, Angel Flight Northeast has served hundreds of patients and their families in the past year alone.
“In 2011, Angel Flight NE scheduled 1,556 flights for Maine patients, with over 40 percent of them for Presque Isle and Aroostook County residents,” said Chandler.
