UM-Presque Isle upcoming events
First Friday Art Walk
PRESQUE ISLE — Friday, Dec. 7, will be the First Friday Art Walk in Presque Isle. In conjunction with the Art Walk, the university will have an opening reception for “Crafted: Fine Craft of Northern Maine,” curated by UMPI Assistant Professor of Fine Art Hyrum Benson from 5-7 p.m.
Some of the featured artists include: Terry Kelly, furniture maker; Edie Greiner, weaver and fibers artist; Heather Bessey, potter; Jeremy Frey, basket maker; Russell Mount, wood carver; Mary Sanipass, basket maker; and Hyrum Benson, ceramics. The artists will be present for a short gallery talk at 5:30 p.m. The exhibit will run through Jan. 5, 2013 in the Reed Fine Art Gallery.
The Reed Fine Art Gallery is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed Sundays and university holidays. This event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Heather Sincavage at 768-9442 or heather.sincavage@umpi.edu.
Northern Maine Chamber Society to hold concert
PRESQUE ISLE — The Northern Maine Chamber Society will hold its winter concert on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 2-5 p.m. in the Campus Center at UMPI. This is the 27th year for the concert. The Chamber orchestra, which has members from northern Maine, New Brunswick, Canada and Bangor, will be performing both classical and popular music with some seasonal music as well.
Waldo Cabellaro, the conductor for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, will be conducting this performance. This event is free and the public is invited to attend. FMI, call 768-9452.
