Friday night opens the 2012-13 basketball season for local high school teams, some having participated in preseason tournaments or scrimmages to get ready for the season start.
On opening night, the Houlton Shiretown varsity girls and boys will travel to Madawaska for 5:30/7 p.m. games. The Katahdin varsity boys will travel to Hodgdon to face the Hawks at 7 p.m., a game to be broadcast by WHOU-FM, while Central Aroostook will meet Southern Aroostook in Dyer Brook for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
On Saturday, the Houlton varsity girls game with Fort Kent has been postponed.
In other basketball action, the Southern Aroostook girls go to Woodland for a 1:30 p.m. contest, while the Katahdin girls play in Fort Fairfield at 2:30 p.m. The East Grand varsity girls and boys will host Easton in a doubleheader starting with the boys game at 2 p.m. followed by the girl’s game at 3:30 p.m.
The Houlton-Hodgdon Black Hawks will travel to play Orono in their first hockey game at 7 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 10, Ashland will travel to East Grand, as the boys play at 5 p.m., with the girl’s game following. Hodgdon girls will be in Stacyville for a 6:30 p.m. game, while the Southern Aroostook girls travel to Mars Hill to play at 7 p.m. And, the Limestone/MSSM Eagles will be in Dyer Brook to take on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Dec. 11, the Hodgdon varsity boys will be in Van Buren at 7 p.m.
GHCA girls and boys open their season Thursday, Dec. 13, at the University of Maine at Presque Isle when they host Wisdom at 5:30/7 p.m.
