Mcavoy, Isabelle L., 83, December 31, 2012. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
STACYVILLE – Isabelle Lorraine Mcavoy, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior Dec. 31, 2012, surrounded by the family she adored. She was born Jan. 4, 1929, the daughter of Albert and Beatrice McNally.
Isabelle was a devoted wife and a wonderful mother to her nine children. Everyone who knew Isabelle knew she had an unwavering faith, she loved the Lord, and her church!
Isabelle was a loyal basketball fan! Rarely missing a game, she enjoyed watching many of her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren play ball. Isabelle was known for refing a number of games from the side lines! Having nine children of her own never stopped Isabelle from opening her home to other children, friends, and relatives who needed a place to be. Her home was rarely quiet, a place where everyone was welcome. Isabelle had many stories of picking potatoes, taking all the kids into the field, with the youngest sleeping in a potato basket, while she picked close to a hundred barrels a day! Later, she worked as a teachers aid at the Stacyville Elementary School with her closest friend, Helen Lewis. Isabelle also worked with her husband, Buck, running the family logging business.
Isabelle was blessed to be so well taken care of by her loving children in these past few years. The family is especially grateful to her daughter, Becky and her husband, Wayne for relocating, making it possible for Isabelle to be in her own home. The family is thankful to Dr. Ted Sussman and Dr. Hassan Abouleish for their compassion and excellent care. A heartfelt thank you to the hospital staff and the staff in the skilled unit for treating Isabelle like family! Isabelle will be greatly missed.
Isabelle is survived by five sons, Rick and his wife, Mary Jane, of Patten, Billy and his wife, Susan, of Sherman, Chris of Brewer, Shaun and his wife, Kelly, of Patten, and Scott of Sherman Station; four daughters, Debbie Patterson and her husband, Wayne, of Austin, TX, Lisa Rush and her husband, Gregg, of Sherman, Becky Hughes and her husband, Wayne, of Sherman Station, and Michele Robinson and her husband, Kevin, of Saco. She leaves behind precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donnie, Blackie, and Earl McNally of Sherman and Patten; many nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Albert McNally, and her sister, Diane London. She is now reunited with her husband of 56 years, John “Buck” Mcavoy.
Friends called at St. Benedict’s Church Thursday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the church at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Joel Cyr celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Katahdin Boosters Club, c/o Lisa Rush, 800 Station Road, Stacyville, 04777. These funds will be used to send boys and girls to a local basketball camp that may otherwise be unable to attend. A service of Dunn Funeral Home. Online condolences and guest book: dunnfuneral.com.
