• Messrs. H. D. Collins and Arden Somers arrived home Wednesday from a trip to Ashland where they went to look over the Ashland lumber mill, reporting recent improvements in the mill have proved very satisfactory and it is now doing a fine business.
100 Years Ago-Jan. 16, 1913
Relief Corp officers installed — The Ansel G. Taylor Post Woman’s Relief Corp met at their headquarters Jan. 10 and served a bountiful supper to members and their husbands. In the afternoon at their regular meeting, the following officers were installed: Letitia Cobb, president; Rosa Baird, Senior vice-president; Eva Baird, Junior vice-president; Nellie Todd, chaplain; Florence Marshall, secretary and Della Berce, treasurer.
A January wedding — George Henry Balland and Myrtle Bell Hanson, both of Caribou, were united in marriage at the M. E. parsonage, January 12, by the Reverend J. H. Gray. All join in wishing these young people a long, happy and prosperous life.

Olympic ski jumpers signed for carnival — Caribou Winter Carnival committee members, who journeyed to Boston to secure this year’s entertainment, report the signing of a versatile and outstanding attraction in the Bavarian Ski Jumpers, seven members, all of whom took part in the last Olympic winter games.
Creamery project favored — At the annual meeting of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce, it was decided to investigate new industry that would give farmers a chance to earn stable cash income from sources other than potatoes. Interest has been shown in a creamery, as at the present time, there are between six and seven thousand cows within a radius of fifteen miles of Caribou.

Raves for Ramblers — In their advertisement, Mason Motors Inc. on the Presque Isle Road, Caribou, features three Rambler models and a heading which reads, “1963 Rambler Wins Car of the Year Award” from Motor Trend Magazine.
Caribou personals — SSgt. Lawrence Blumer has arrived from service in Tripoli, Africa. He will leave shortly with his wife, the former Gloria Norsworthy, and children Larry, Bruce and Vickie, for his new assignment at Randolph ARF, San Antonio, Texas. Robert I. Hardison, a junior at the University of Maine, was elected president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Hardison.

Chamber welcomes four directors — The Caribou Chamber of Commerce recently elected four new members to the executive board of directors: Phil Levesque of Levesque Office Supply; Richard Solman Jr. Solman, Page and Hunter; Phil Bosse of Mementoes Gift Shop and David Dubois, certified public accountant.
New energy saving fluorescents — Maine Public Service Company announces a new experimental energy saving program which provides for the replacement of incandescent lamps with fluorescent lamps designed for use in incandescent fixtures. Maine Public is the only utility in the state to offer this program to residential customers.
