PRESQUE ISLE — A local man was arrested and charged for assaulting two individuals near the Presque Isle District Courthouse on Monday.

At approximately 1:52 p.m. on Jan. 14, the Presque Isle Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fight between a male and female on Riverside Drive, near the courthouse. One of the callers also stated that there was a large knife involved in the attack.

Sgt. Mark Barnes and Officer Kevin Schumacher, of the PIPD, were assigned and responded to investigate.

“We found 32-year-old Michael Charm of Presque Isle, 29-year-old Brandon Boyd of Mars Hill and 22-year-old Misty Hodsdon of Presque Isle when we arrived. Charm and Boyd had gotten into an altercation after Charm allegedly assaulted Hodsdon in Boyd’s vehicle,” said Barnes.

Barnes said a weapon was discovered when police searched the area.

“A large machete was found nearby and seized as evidence,” said Barnes.

Neither Boyd nor Hodsdon were hurt seriously in the assaults and neither required medical attention.

Barnes arrested Charm on two counts of aggravated assault, Class B felonies, because of the weapon involved and the nature of the injuries.

“Charm was transported to the Caribou Police Department for holding until he can be arraigned,” said Barnes.

Bail for Charm was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 surety. A Superior Court date has been set for March 19 at 9 a.m.
