Two school swim records broken
A pair of new school records were established during the Presque Isle swim team’s road meet against Hampden Academy, held Saturday.
Nate Dewitt established a new mark in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.48 and the boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay team, made up of Isaac Estey, Dewitt, Alex Hemphill and Joshua Jones, is the new record holder in the event with a time of 1:44.72.
The Wildcats had three swimmers hit qualifying times for the upcoming state meet. Dewitt did so in the 100 backstroke, while Estey qualified in both the 100 and 50 freestyle. Dustin Drabek made the cut in the 500 freestyle.
The Wildcats were beaten by Hampden Academy. The girls’ score was 104-62 and the boys’ score was 77-73.
Taking first place in the girls’ meet was the 200-yard medley relay team of Abbie Estey, Jackie Lambert, Erikka Murley and Sara Gilson, whose time was 2:20.79. Estey won the 500 freestyle in 7:00.81 and Lambert won the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.05.
For the boys, the medley relay team of Estey, Hemphill, Dewitt and Drabek was first in 1:58.84. Dewitt won the 100 backstroke and also took the 100 butterfly in 1:01.62, while Estey captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.09.
Alexis Coiley, who competes independently for Fort Fairfield, won the 200 freestyle in 2:20.56 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:23.25. During the meet, she qualified for the state meet in the breaststroke.
The team’s next competition will be held Saturday against Ellsworth and George Stevens Academy in Ellsworth.
