The Cary Medical Center Auxiliary has awarded their 2012 scholarship to Sarah Plourde of Caribou. The auxiliary awards the $500 scholarship annually to a high school senior pursuing a degree in a health-care-related field. Sarah is currently attending the University of Maine at Fort Kent, enrolled in the bachelor of science in nursing degree program. She is the daughter of Darsey and Scott Plourde of Caribou. Samantha Murchison is the 2012 recipient of the $1,000 Winnifred “Pete” Bell Scholarship managed by the Jefferson Cary Foundation. The scholarship was established in honor of Winnie Bell, a registered nurse who worked at Cary Medical Center for nearly 40 years on the obstetrics floor and as a nursing supervisor. The Bell family established the scholarship on Pete’s 80th birthday. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing a degree in nursing. Samantha is a first-year student currently enrolled in the bachelor of science in nursing degree program at the University of Maine Orono, and is the daughter of Ken and Jan Murchison of Caribou. Presenting Samantha with the scholarship funds are, from left, Dr. Shawn Laferriere, medical director of radiology at Cary Medical Center and JCF board member, and Mary Harrigan, JCF executive director.
