115 Years Ago- Jan. 27, 1897
• E. J. Fenderson, the ice dealer, has cut and stored 350 tons of ice this season, completing the work last week.
• A. H. Dickinson of Perham came near meeting with a fatal accident. While at work breaking out roads and attempting to unhook a chain, he was kicked in the forehead by one of his horses and knocked senseless for several seconds. Fortunately, no serious results followed.

100 Years Ago-Jan. 23, 1913
Salesmen persevere — Traveling men for the past few days have come into town (Limestone) by team on account of the B & A Railroad strike. We have read of strikes but this touches us and becomes real. It is a great setback to Aroostook County at this potato shipping season.
Lady wanted — The classified advertisement reads: “To introduce our very complete Spring line of beautiful wool suiting, wash fabrics, waistings, silks, handkerchiefs, laces and petticoats…Samples and full instructions packed in a neat sample case…Write for particulars. Be sure to apply.” – Standard Dress Goods Company, Binghamton, N. Y.
Caribou locals — H. T. Powers, Esq. of Fort Fairfield was in town Tuesday. Frank Riley is building a two-story house on Franklin Street. The junior class of the Caribou high school enjoyed a sleigh ride to Woodland Monday night.

Lumber camp cuisine — A new feature of the Aroostook Sportsmen’s Show announced by officials is a lumber camp cook house, brought right out of the woods, to serve those who have never enjoyed a real woods meal. Housed in the big Caribou Armory, the cook and two cookees will spend three days preparing bread, beans, biscuits, raisin cookies and pies by the score.
Camera club startups — A local group working on plans to start a camera club report considerable enthusiasm on the part of many. Suggestive plans from similar clubs are being collected and attention has been called to the fact that both Fort Fairfield and Houlton have recently announced plans for clubs in their respective locations.
50 Years Ago-Jan. 24, 1963
Stockholm news — The George Fogelin store (formerly the Lewis Anderson store) has been closed. This was the first store built in Stockholm and has served the public for the past 62 years. James Bossie and Orille Dufour were in Houlton attending a Civil Defense Radio Monitor Course; Mr. Dufour is civil defense director in Stockholm.
Connor school fire — One hundred and thirty four students who were without classrooms after fire leveled the Connor Consolidated School last Thursday morning have been accommodated at Sincock School and the Damon and Harrison Elementary Schools of Loring, James Miller, principal of the school said.

Ski season underway — Area schools will look to shine today in County cross-country championships at Caribou and alpine championships to be held at Edmundston, N.B. Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Northstar District Boy Scouts host their second annual Nordic Challenge, Feb. 6, on the trails at Up Country Winter Sports in Fort Fairfield. The Northeast Chapter of National Audubon Society will hold a cross-country ski tour, Jan. 30, on the Aroostook Ski Touring Trail, Wrightville Rd., Ashland.
