City council TV blackout?
To the editor:
I approached you with my concerns regarding the seeming reluctance to make provisions for airing the City Council’s meetings on the public access television channel.
It is my understanding there is a problem with having an operator available on a permanent basis. However, I discovered there are people who would be willing to be trained to operate the camera. The city manager appears to be reluctant to do this. If there is no operator, no televising of the city council meetings. Too bad!
There are many citizens in this city who are unable to attend these meetings but still have an interest in our city. Most pay taxes and support this city. The council and city manager are our employees and should recognize this.
The city council should do its job and see that the citizens of this city are well-informed, and not only those who attend meetings, but those who are unable to attend. The airing of the citys’ business is of concern to all citizens and the opportunity is available, at no cost, on Channel 16, a public information channel.
I also understand it is the obligation and duty of the city to inform the citizens of the business of our city. To ignore this duty is what I would call arrogance.
