Swimmers fall at Ellsworth

    The Wildcats’ swim team made the trip to Ellsworth Saturday for a meet against the Eagles.

    Presque Isle fell, with the girls losing 88-46 and the boys falling, 85-68, but Isaac Estey and Alex Hemphill both earned qualifying times for the upcoming state meet.

 

    Estey made it in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.16,  good for second place, while Hemphill did so in the 200 medley (third in 2:31.08) and the 100 breaststroke (second in 1:16.64).

    First-place winners for Presque Isle were Matt Burtt in the 200 freestyle, Sara Gilson in the 100 freestyle and Nate Dewitt in the 100 freestyle.

    The 200 freestyle relay team of Hemphill, Dewitt, Joshua Jones and Estey also was victorious in 1:45.55.

    The team swims at Washington Academy Saturday before hosting Caribou in a meet next Wednesday, Jan. 30.
