Viking teams set for road trip

The longest road trip of the season for the Caribou boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will take place this weekend.

The Vikings head to Hancock County for a doubleheader Friday at Ellsworth and Saturday at Mount Desert Island.

The Caribou boys are 8-4 and currently in eighth place in the Eastern Maine Class B standings, while the girls are in 13th place and hold on to the final playoff spot with their 3-10 record.

On Saturday, the Viking boys cruised past visiting John Bapst, 56-33. Kameron Manter and Derek Richardson scored 13 points each for Caribou.

In the girls’ game that same afternoon, Caribou held an 8-2 lead after the first quarter but could not hold on in the 36-30 loss.

Alexa Massey scored 13 points to lead the Vikes.

Caribou was beaten at Houlton last Tuesday, 48-36. Rebecca McDougal scored 12 points and Aneesha Hersey added 10 for the Vikings.

The Limestone-MSSM girls and boys earned victories over Ashland last week.

In the boys’ 51-33 win, Nate Tucker and Dean Clavet scored 12 points each for Limestone-MSSM.

The girls were also impressive in a 57-33 triumph. Alexis Bell tallied 13 points and also hauled in eight boards for the Eagles. Kassee Albert and Chelsey Pelkey notched 11 and 10, respectively.

The Eagle boys are 11th in EM Class D with their 5-8 record, while the girls, at 6-5, are currently eighth. The top 15 teams make the playoffs.
