CAHS cheerleaders place 2nd in state
BANGOR — The Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners have prevented Central Aroostook from winning its sixth consecutive Class D state cheering competition.

The Mariners came out on top in Monday’s event, held at the Bangor Auditorium, by scoring 117.4 points to CA’s 115.
DI-Stonington had also beaten the Panthers at the Eastern Maine Championships, which were held Jan. 26.
Bangor Christian was third, Machias fourth and Penobscot Valley of Howland fifth.
Washburn took sixth place with 98.2 points.
The Panthers are coached by Sami Allen and Janice Mosher.
Members of the Central Aroostook squad include Colby Endy, Laken Kingsbury, Alexis Brewer, Brittany Drost, Alexis Bradbury, Courtney Milliard, Shannon Scully, Jordan Canney, Noelle Bailey, Elizabeth Gillen, Victoria Brewer, Dayna Collins, Brooke Cyr, Hailey Isabelle, Rae Brewer and Tucker Fletcher.
The Washburn squad, coached by Josh Barnes, includes Tiffany Bragg, Mykayla Churchill, Marienna Bragg, Kaylee Doody, Caitlyn Roix, Alexa Woodman, manager Lucia Bragg, Courtney Cannon, Jackie McCarthy and Catelyn Coulombe.
In Class B, the Hermon Hawks defended their title by scoring 155 points to finish ahead of runner-up Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, which had 148.1. Ellsworth was third with 146.8
The Presque Isle Wildcats, who tied for third at the regionals two weeks earlier, were seventh this time around with a score of 119.1.
Members of the Presque Isle squad, coached by Jenna Bradstreet, are Madison Bagley, Renee Browning, Emily Buckley, Madelyn Caron, Michelle Cawley, Justena Cleveland, Kelsey Corriveau, Ashley Cote, Rachel Dow, Mary Green, Kenedy Jarvis, Lindsey Lagerstrom, Cassandra Lunney, Alexandra Michaud, Katelyn Michaud, Kellsey Michaud, Lazareth Porquin, Madison Postell and Kelsie Spooner.
The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to the snowstorm.
