Season ends for Owl men’s squad
Pelletier scores 1,000th point for UMPI women in loss
The University of Maine at Presque Isle basketball teams braved the stormy weather for a weekend road trip to Vermont, with the men closing out their season with a pair of losses and the women splitting their contests.
A special milestone was achieved Sunday by senior Emily Pelletier of the Owl women’s team.
Pelletier’s second three-point field goal early in the contest put her over the 1,000-point mark for her career.
The senior from Fort Kent has been a deadly three-point shooter throughout her career, connecting for over 150 threes during her four years at the university.
Despite the accomplishment, the Owls fell to College of St. Joseph’s, 62-57.
Pelletier finished with 14 points and had 1,009 entering the team’s final game of the season Tuesday at Bates College in Lewiston.
The UMPI women had beaten Vermont Tech Saturday, 56-53, behind Pelletier’s 16 points. Darby Toth netted 11 and Doni Yendriga eight points and 12 rebounds.
The UMPI men dropped both their games in Vermont, losing to College of St. Joseph’s Sunday, 77-66, after dropping an 86-77 decision at Vermont Tech the previous afternoon.
Claude Louis had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Patrick Manifold 11 points and 10 boards Sunday, while Manifold’s 25 points and Louis’ 19 led the Owls Saturday.
The Owl men closed the year with an 11-14 record.
In their home finales Thursday, Manifold and Michael Warner combined for 53 points as the UMPI men beat UMFK, 95-72, while the women lost, 79-74, despite Randi Kaplan’s 14 points.
