HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a “person of interest” who may have abandoned kittens in downtown Houlton in late January. Two of the kittens froze to death.
According to Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin, the person in question is female and described as being heavy set with blond, pink and green hair. The woman is missing a front tooth and has tattoos on her forearms. The woman may be from Hodgdon.

Police posted the information on the department’s Facebook page Monday. Asselin said his department was alerted to the incident by the animal control officer and a column that appeared in the Feb. 6 issue of the Houlton Pioneer Times written by Lorraine Monfils of the Ark Animal Sanctuary.
The individual could be charged with cruelty to animals, which is a class C felony crime, Asselin said.
