The 2012-13 regular basketball season has finished, with several teams preparing for playoff games or quarterfinal match ups for the Eastern Maine Classes B-C-D Tournament held Feb. 15-23 at the Bangor Auditorium.
The Houlton girls finished their season with a loss to Mattanawcook Academy and win over visiting Lee Academy.
Houlton 28, Mattanawcook Academy 36 — Last Thursday, the game got off to a slow start, as the teams were tied at halftime, 16-all. The Lynx pushed their lead to 27-22 at the end of the third to take the win.

Harli Maxwell led Mattanawcook Academy with 12 points, while Bre Longstaff paced Houlton with seven points. Senior Tori Hanson netted six points, while Katie Condon and Samantha Keegan both dropped in five points for the Lady Shires.
Houlton 51, Lee Academy 42 — At home last Tuesday, the Lady Shires held off a late rally (36-30 with five minutes left) by the Pandas to pick up the win.
Condon keyed the Lady Shires with 17 points and six rebounds, while Marina Cameron tossed in 10 points. Keegan netted eight and Hanson added seven points, but grabbed 18 rebounds.
Houlton led throughout the game 8-6; 23-12; and 37-25.
The Lady Shires went 12 of 19 from the free-throw line and held off Jordan Maxwell’s individual effort in the final period (six, 3-pointers) and 15 points to seal the win.
Hodgdon 56, Katahdin 48 — Last Wednesday, Haley Gardiner led the Hawks to victory with 17 points, while Lacey McQuarrie posted 16 and Jennah Steamer another 11.
For Katahdin, which has shown progress through the season, Molly Cunningham and Ashley Randall each scored 12 points, with Megan Merry chipping in with 11 points.
Hodgdon 78, GHCA 39 — It was not much of a contest last Friday night in Hodgdon, but the Hawks did celebrate Mariah Wiley’s 1,000th point. Wiley finished the game with 25 points — seven, 3-pointers — while McQuarrie netted 17. Steamer and Gardiner both finished with 16 points apiece. Steamer also hauled down 12 rebounds.
For GHCA, Colby Walker scored 12 points. Destinee Neureuther and Olivia Lord finished their high school careers with seven and six points, respectively.
The Hawks led at all scoring breaks 16-7; 23-19; and 58-28.
SACS 48, Limestone/MSSM 50 — Last Wednesday in Limestone, the Southern Aroostook girls watched an 11 point fourth-quarter lead dissolve, as the Eagles outscored SACS, 17-4 to steal the win.
The Lady Warriors were led in scoring by Sable Altvater with 16 points and Jess Tucker with 12.
At the breaks, the Lady Warriors led 16-11; 33-27; and 44-33.
In other action, the East Grand girls overpowered Acadia Christian, 46-8 to conclude their season, while GHCA lost their hopes of a playoff bid when they fell short to Wisdom, 42-40.
