MERRILL — Icy road conditions were to blame for two separate crashes in Aroostook County Thursday, Feb. 7.
Jennifer Bustard, 21, of Merrill was traveling west on Route 212 in Merrill when she hit a patch of black ice at 6:33 a.m. Bustard reportedly lost control of her vehicle, causing it to leave the road, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Josh Haines.

Bustard was wearing her seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. No ambulance was needed at the scene.  Bustard’s 2006 Pontiac car sustained major front-end damage. Trooper Tim Saucier investigated the crash.
Later that same day, at about 11:28 a.m., Ralph D’Angelo, 66, of Caribou lost control of his vehicle as he was traveling south on U.S. Route 1 in Wesfield. D’Angelo’s vehicle crossed into the opposing lane, went off the roadway, and rolled onto its side, Haines said.
Passing motorists assisted D’Angelo out of the vehicle. He was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seatbelt. Crown Ambulance responded but D’Angelo was not transported. D’Angelo’s vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, sustained damage to the passenger side.
Trooper Jared Sylvia investigated the crash.
