HOULTON — The town has unveiled a redesigned municipal website filled with a bundle of new features for Houlton residents near and far.
A year in the making, the website project began with former Town Manager Doug Hazlett and Town Clerk Cathy O’Leary.
“The features included are to provide immediate information to citizens so that they are able to access at any time and at the same time provide information to anyone that is looking to visit, locate or start a business here,” said O’Leary. “We wanted the day-to-day information to be easily accessed.”
Among the features found on the new website are areas where the public can renew or register their vehicle online; obtain a dog license; obtain a burn permit; apply for a marriage license, building permit or business license; register to vote; and request vital records such as birth, death or marriage records.
When using the online features, any information that normally would be picked up at the town office would instead be mailed to the person’s home, making a trip to the town office unnecessary.
Want to know where your property boundaries are or how much your neighbor’s house and land are assessed at? Simply click on the “Look up property info” tab and view the town’s property tax maps or tax commitments.
Included in the tax map is such information as how much land a person has; how much that land is worth; whether the owners have exemptions; the value of the home; and the square footage of the dwelling.
“We have also added a ‘report a concern’ section to allow for further input from the public,” O’Leary said. “The new site also allows us to update and add information regularly which is an important feature for us to keep it as current as possible. It is still a work in progress and we appreciate any feedback.
