In addition to promoting the arts, the Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project has been involved in helping to raise awareness about issues that affect the local communities. An upcoming project titled, “The Gift of Adoption,” will focus on families that have adopted children.
SACAP will use its Blue Moon Art Gallery at Visions to celebrate the gift that changes lives. The display will include art by families that have adopted, poetry with a theme of adoption, and photos of people who have been adopted.
The displays will remain at Visions until March 20. This event will also help to raise awareness about children still waiting to be adopted into a permanent family. There are children all over the world waiting to be adopted and right here in Maine there are over 350 children waiting for a permanent family.
Those who are thinking about adoption should know that the most important qualification is the ability to provide a stable, loving home, and be able to help your adopted child work through issues raised by his or her past. That is part of the gift of adoption.
The Southern Aroostook Community Arts Project is a non-profit organization that has been supporting the arts for 14 years. Visions is located at 66 Main St. in Houlton. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. While the focus of SACAP is local they also maintain a website (www.sacap.us) that can be visited by people from all over the world.
