On Feb. 13 Clayton Webb celebrated his 89th birthday and in honor of the occasion, his wife Charlene, baked him a beautiful, red-velvet bundt cake complete with decorations and for his birthday meal Charlene made his favorite dinner — spaghetti and meatballs. Enjoying all this were his children, Dale Webb and Brenda Willette and good friend, Mary Pipes, who also presented Clayton with a birthday cake when she arrived for dinner.
The Webbs and Mary are anxious for spring to arrive as then the Country Music Jamboree will once again be held at the snowmobile clubhouse and Clayton says he is ready to sing and dance away the evening.
I had a note from my sister in New Hampshire and she tells me she is still digging out from the two feet of snow they got last week and that the ski areas are really doing a booming business.
I have really been busy this past week as it seems my wildlife friends are really hungry and have been consuming a lot of peanut butter and lard mixture as soon a I put it out and a dish of it only lasts one day. I used the crunchy peanut butter and the red squirrels sure go for that, and it is a favorite of the nuthatches, too. Still have the battle of the squirrels — red and gray — to watch and, of course, the gray ones usually win out, being so much bigger. I haven’t seen any new deer tracks around lately and the bread I throw out has been eaten by the pigeons and squirrels, I think.
I understand that there is a sizeable herd of deer up on the Retreat Road so guess that is where mine have gone. Will keep an eye out for them, nevertheless, in hopes they will return.
