• Castle Hill locals — F. E. Tarr has so near recovered from his recent injury that he has returned from the hospital at Presque Isle and is stopping for a few days with his sister, Mrs. J. W. Belyea. The crop of spring lambs has commenced to arrive in the flock of sheep owned by Mrs. E. Tarr. The snow of Sunday was very welcome and a great help to the lumbermen.
• Basketball action — In one of the cleanest games of basketball yet to be played in the opera house, the Millinocket team defeated Caribou’s Universalist team by a score of 21 to 16. In justice to the home team, we should add that it was but organized and had only one night’s practice, and a new man, Umphrey of Washburn, was substituted for one of its players.
75 Years Ago-Feb. 24, 1938
• High schoolers present Minstrel Show — Thursday next at 8 p.m. the Dramatic Club of Limestone High School will present The Show Boat Minstrels. The entertainment will consist of a drama with plot, the minstrel show, numerous musical numbers, both vocal and instrumental, and tap dancing. A moderate admission will be charged.
• Carnival horse racing — Chairman Arthur Ginn reports he is exceptionally proud of the card offered for horse racing in conjunction with the Caribou Winter Carnival. The following are featured on today’s schedule: first race, Junior Free for All; second race, Aroostook Trust Co. Stake; third race, Federation Farmers Stake; fourth race, Summers Fertilizer Stake; and fifth race, Caribou Drug Co. Stake.
50 Years Ago-Feb. 21, 1963
• Maine-Quebec Caravan heads out — The sixth Maine-Quebec Highway Caravan is scheduled to leave Ashland Feb. 22 at 5:30 a.m. Currently, 206 people from 29 Maine towns, N. H., Conn., and N. Y, plan to make the trip, including Paris Snow, Gerald Cyr and Eddie Clayton from Caribou. A road now exists over the route to be followed, and for a few miles, it follows the “California Road” which connected Aroostook County with the west over 100 years ago.
• Auto Show features latest models — Organizers of Caribou’s fifth annual Kiwanis Auto Show invite all to this “gala showing of the all new 1963 cars.” Just a few of the featured vehicles include: the Plymouth Valiant, Ford Country Squire station wagon, Mercury Meteor, Chevy II Nova Sport Coupe, AMC Rambler, Buick Skylark and Cadillac Coupe de Ville.

• The latest technology — In this week’s newspaper, M & S Office Supply is advertising the “Xerox Memorywriter” electric typewriter and Caribou House of Video offers a “3 for $5.00” weekend special on the rental of three VHS movies.
• SCORE seeks women members — The chairman of the Caribou Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), a local group of retired executives providing counseling to Caribou business people, announced last week that former women business owners and executives are needed for chapter work. “Score acknowledges the expertise dynamic business women can offer — not only advising other women in business, but any and all small businesses in need of consultation,” said Chairman Philip Turner.
