Movie to focus on health care concerns
On March 4, the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging (M4A) and its partners will host free Health Care Town Hall meetings throughout Maine to preview and discuss the documentary, “Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare.” The viewing of this award-winning documentary film will be followed by an engaging discussion between health care providers and consumers regarding how to increase the quality of care while reducing the cost of health care in Maine.
The goal is to find solutions that are positive, creative and bold in order to turn this situation around. Participants will explore how we all can help create change by taking personal action to learn more, speak up and support positive policy change.
“Escape Fire” examines the powerful forces maintaining the status quo of America’s health care industry. The current system is far more expensive than any other country in the world with outcomes that are no better, and in many cases worse, than other countries. Rising health care costs are making businesses unsustainable and are jeopardizing other sectors of the nation’s economy. The movie underscores that we all have a part to play in real system change.
The Health Care Town Hall meetings are scheduled from 5:30-8 p.m. — doors open at 5 p.m. — at the University of Maine campuses on Monday, March 4, and include the following locations: Augusta, Auburn, Machias, Orono, Portland and Presque Isle.
These Health Care Town Hall meetings are presented by co-sponsors Maine Quality Counts, Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Maine Association for Area Agencies on Aging, and in collaboration with the Maine Health Access Foundation, Maine Health Management Coalition, Maine Osteopathic Association, Maine Primary Care Association and Maine Public Health Association.
