Drama festival to be held at CPAC this Saturday

    CARIBOU — Five Aroostook County high schools will meet on Saturday, March 9, at the Caribou Performing Arts Center to compete in the Class B Northern Maine Regional Drama Festival. Participants include Van Buren, Easton, Fort Kent, Caribou and Washburn.

    The competition will be held in two sessions, one in the afternoon beginning at 1 p.m., and one in the evening beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets for each session of plays will be available at $4 for high school students and younger, and $7 for adults. Washburn, Easton and Van Buren will perform in the afternoon; Caribou and Fort Kent in the evening.
    Per rules established by the Maine Principals Association, anyone arriving after performances have begun will not be seated. If you wish to see a specific school, be sure to arrive at the beginning of the session. The ticket booth will open at noon on the day of the competition.
    The schedule of performances and play titles are as follows:
    In the 1 p.m. session, Washburn High will present “Heinz’s Wheel of Doom,” an original script written by members of the cast. Washburn’s effort is directed by Mrs. Robin Thurston. Following Washburn will be Easton with “Odd Ball,” directed by Ms. Debbie Rooney. Rounding out the first session will be Van Buren’s production of “The Summons of Sariel,” directed by Ms. Susan Lajoie.
    The evening session begins at 7 p.m. with Caribou’s “Us and Them,” directed by Joe Zubrick, followed by Fort Kent Community High School’s “Prelude to a Kiss,” directed by Doug Clapp.
    Judges for the event will be Megan Cross, Jim Derosier and Tamia Glidden.
    The school chosen as finalist in the festival will be eligible for the state finals held at Freeport High School on March 22 and 23.
