Machias Savings Bank presented the Houlton Community Arts Center with a check for $5,000 as a sponsor in support of the arts center series of comedy events.
The first comedy series event was held on Jan. 12 with southern Maine stand-up comedians Erik Gunderson and Johnny Ater. A second comedy event featured Boston stand-up regulars, Josh Day and Jimmy Dunn Saturday. Upcoming events include The Wicked Good Band on April 12 and Tim Sample on May 11. Popular

Maine comedian, Bob Marley, will wrap up the series on June 1.
“Houlton Community Arts Center Council has worked over the past few years to renovate the auditorium and provide a venue that the school and greater community can utilize and be proud of,” said Kristen Wells, managing director of Houlton Community Arts Center. “Now we have an incredible asset that can help us promote our continued effort to build a space that better suits our needs for education and community performing arts. It’s our hope that offering a series of comedy events will demonstrate the diverse potential of the auditorium and draw a few new people in to see the space.”
Jacqueline Jones, vice president and bank branch manager in Houlton added,  “Machias Savings Bank is pleased to be a sponsor for the Houlton Community Art Center’s Comedy Series. We believe in strengthening and supporting the organizations that contribute to the economic and social well being of the communities we serve. HCAC’s focus on the arts, youth and community mirror our own commitment to the Houlton area.”
With Machias Savings Bank as the presenting sponsor, proceeds from the sale of tickets will help support future events and activities organized by Houlton Community Arts Center.
All Houlton Community Arts Center comedy events are open to the public and will take place at the auditorium at Houlton High School. Tickets and more information for upcoming comedy shows can be purchased at Yorks Books in Houlton, online at www.houltonarts.org, or by calling 1-888-422-1278.
