    American Flag ColorASHLANDPT Norman Botting and PATTEN – Norman G. Botting Sr. died March 5, 2013, at his home in Ashland with family at his side. He was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Garfield Plantation, the son of Arthur and Nancy (Eastman) Botting.
    He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943 to 1945, serving on board an aircraft carrier. Norman worked for the CC’s, then worked in the woods for several years with his sons, Skippy and Paul. He helped build I-95 from Medway to Houlton, then worked at J.M. Huber Plywood Mill, then helped build Katahdin High School, where he then worked nine and a half years as custodian.
    He is survived by the love of his life for 71 years, Ruby (Pyle) Botting of Ashland; three children, Norman Botting Jr., Paul Botting and Mary Mitchell, all of Houlton, and Pauletta McLellan and her husband, Harvey Sr., of Ashland; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grand-children, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Arthur; four siblings; and two daughters-in-law, Judy and Lorna.
    The family thanks Hospice of Aroostook, Deanne Basso, Darlene Hammond, Sherry Seelza and Lynette Young for their support, care and comfort during these times; his nephew and ice fishing buddy, Gary Pyle; and Benji Cullins; and his trapping buddy, Harvey Jr.  Graveside funeral services will be held in the spring at Patten Cemetery.
