    The Big East Conference recently announced its special award winners for the 2012-13 basketball season.

    The girls’ co-players of the year were Chandler Guerrette of Presque Isle and Hannah Shaw of Mount Desert Island, while the boys’ player of the year was Garrett Libby of Old Town.
    Guerrette was second in the conference in scoring at 15.22 points per game, third in field goal percentage at 50.63 percent, first in free throw percentage at 81.18 percent, seventh in three-point field goal percentage at 22.06 percent, third in steals at 3.44 per game and tied for first in assists at 3.22 per game.
    Shaw was third in scoring at 15.06 ppg, first in field goal percentage at 62.57 percent, second in rebounding at 7.67 per game and second in steals at 3.94 per game.
    Libby was the boys’ scoring leader at 22.17 ppg. He was sixth in field goal percentage at 48.34, fourth in free throw percentage at 78.21, fifth in three-point field goal percentage at 36.16, fourth in rebounding at 8.28 per game and fifth in steals at 2.17 per game.
    Joining Guerrette and Shaw on the girls’ all-conference first team were Raychel Alley of Hermon, Mackenzie Foss of Washington Academy and Hannah Graham of Presque Isle.
    Making up the second team were Megan Ireland of Presque Isle, Mackenzie Coiley of Foxcroft Academy, Morgan Card of Ellsworth, Brooke Cole of Old Town and Alexa Massey of Caribou.
    Emily Lewis of MDI earned honorable mention.
    Other boys’ all-conference first-teamers along with Libby were Ben Walls of MDI, Dayne Savage of Caribou, Tyler Thayer of Hermon and Jonah Stephenson of Presque Isle.
    On the second team were Tyler Brooks of Presque Isle, Ryan Rebar of Foxcroft Academy, Jonathan Phelps of MDI, Derek Richardson of Caribou and Bradley Shields of Presque Isle.
    Receiving honorable mention were Steve Mahon of Ellsworth and Gage Feeney of Washington Academy.
    The Presque Isle girls and boys were both honored as conference champions. MDI was the girls’ and boys’ runners-up. The MDI girls and Foxcroft Academy boys were the team sportsmanship recipients, while Brent Barker of MDI was the girls’ coach of the year and Chris Casavant of Caribou the boys’ coach of the year.
    One member of each team was recognized with scholar-athlete, spirit award and defensive awards. The recipients are as follows:

    Boys’ scholar-athletes: Joey Martin, Hermon; Nathan Wall, Caribou; Sam Keane, Foxcroft Academy; Jordan Carr, John Bapst; Eddie Gonella, Old Town; Keegan McKim, MDI; Corey Willette, Presque Isle; Tyler Warner, Washington Academy; and Jake Maguire, Ellsworth.
    Girls’ Paul Soucy Spirit Award: Kate Kivler, Hermon; Chelsea Beal, Ellsworth; Mackenzie Coiley, Foxcroft Academy; Reanna Plourde, Caribou; Mackenzie Hayman, John Bapst; Susie Outman, Old Town; Tamara Kabuye, Washington Academy; Emily Lewis, MDI; and Liza Buck, Presque Isle.
    Boys’ Paul Soucy Spirit Award: Chris Allen, Hermon; Devin Berkoski, Caribou; Kaleb Smith. Foxcroft Academy; Shawn Curran, John Bapst; Brandon Emerson, Old Town; Andrew Dalton, MDI; Jacob Williams, Presque Isle; Nicholas Raye, Washington Academy; and Cody Del Conte, Ellsworth.
    Girls’ defensive award: Claire Peterson, Hermon; Taylor White, Ellsworth; Whitney Arno, Foxcroft Academy; Katelynn Tardie, Caribou; Tessa Lilley, John Bapst; Lauren Martin, Old Town; Logan Huckins, Washington Academy; Molly Carroll, MDI; and Karlee Bernier, Presque Isle.
    Boys’ defensive award: Fritz Marseille, Hermon; Matthew Milliard, Caribou; Ryan Rebar, Foxcroft Academy; Riley Tapley, John Bapst; Cameron Archer, Old Town; Abe Philbrook, MDI; Benjamin Nickerson, Presque Isle; Austin Seavey, Washington Academy; and Josh Bean, Ellsworth.
    Playing for the girls’ White team were Presque Isle’s Guerrette, Bernier and Stewart and Caribou’s Rebecca McDougal and Tardie, along with Firestone of Ellsworth, Kelsey Hesseltine, Cole and Outman, all of Old Town; and Lewis of Mount Desert Island. Presque Isle’s Jeff Hudson was the team’s coach.
    Members of the girls’ Blue team were Ireland and Laurin Ackerson, both of Presque Isle; Massey of Caribou, as well as Whitney Arno of Foxcroft Academy, Bailey Burr of MDI, Taylor White of Ellsworth, Kelsey Maxim of Old Town, Jewett of MDI, Darby Paul of Old Town and Foss of Washington Academy. Barker was selected as the coach.
    The boys’ White team included Stephenson and Brooks, both of Presque Isle; Tyler Varney of WA, Bean of Ellsworth, McKim of MDI, Jacob Schoppee of WA, Libby of Old Town, Andrew Farnsworth of WA, Chris Kaiser of MDI and Adam Strang of John Bapst. Terry Cummings of Presque Isle coached the squad.
    Playing on the boys’ Blue team were Presque Isle’s Williams and Willette, along with Archer of Old Town, Rebar of Foxcroft Academy, Gonnella of Old Town, Colin Mooers of MDI, Smith of Foxcroft Academy, Walls of MDI, Martin of Hermon and Adam Gray of MDI. Justin Norwood of MDI was the team’s coach.
