Houlton area Little League baseball/softball sign-ups

Spring is coming and so are sign-ups for the Houlton Area Little League for all age divisions, including junior and senior leagues, on April 1-3 at the Houlton Rec from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Little League baseball players (ages 7-12) must live in Houlton, Hammond, Ludlow and New Limerick.  These are the Houlton Area Little League boundaries.

Little League softball players (ages 9-12), and Junior/Senior League baseball players (ages 13-16) may live anywhere within the Houlton or Hodgdon school districts.
As per Little League rules, if you reside outside of the Houlton’s Little League boundaries, and wish to be part of Houlton’s League, please contact Border League for approval. If you live within Houlton’s boundaries, and wish to play for Border League, you can contact Houlton’s League president for approval.
The cost is $45 per player.  For families with more than one player, the costs are: two players — $40 each; three or more players — $35 each.
The League will be continuing its Minor League Division (7-11 year-olds) to go along with the Majors Division (9-12 year-olds).
The “Minors” division will include boys and girls as young as 7 years old and tryout is April 25, while the “Major” players will tryout on April 23 and girls age 9-12 will be in the softball “Majors” division with tryouts on April 24. All tryouts will be on the field, weather permitting.
Minors/Majors baseball division birthday cut-off date is May 1 (must be at least 7 before that date).  Players turning 13 before May 1, will only be eligible for Junior League play, later in the spring.
Junior League baseball division birthday cut-off date is also May 1 (must be at least 13 before that date).  Players turning 14 before May 1, are too old and would not be eligible for Junior League play.
Majors girls softball division birthday cut off date is Jan. 1 (must be at least 9 before that date).  Players turning 13 before Jan. 1, will not be eligible for Little League softball play this season.
The Houlton Little League elected new officers for the upcoming season — Dave Tucker, president; Dennis Hagan, vice president; Dave Astle, secretary/treasurer; Brian Howe, player agent; Chris Brewer, safety officer; Joe Porter, Majors vice president; and Chad Gentle, Minors vice president.
Those interested in coaching, should attend a meeting on Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at the Houlton Rec Center or contact Dave Tucker as soon as possible.
