PRESQUE ISLE — A local man has been charged following a single-vehicle accident on the Washburn Road Saturday night.
On March 16, the Presque Isle Police Department received a 9-1-1 call around 7:59 p.m. from a man reporting a vehicle accident in front of his house on the Washburn Road. The caller indicated there were several individuals in the car. He said the car “sheared a pole off.” Several other calls were received reporting the accident.
PIPD Officers Brian McQuarrie and Kevin Reed responded to investigate.
According to the police log, the driver, identified as Christian L. Parent, 21, of Presque Isle, told police he’d hit black ice and lost control, the car spun, crossed lanes and went off the road, striking a utility pole.
Parent and two other male passengers suffered minor injuries but refused treatment. The vehicle, a 2009 Mitsubishi sedan, sustained extensive damage to the passenger side front door.
Parent was transported to the police station where a test indicated his blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit.
Parent was charged with operating under the influence and given a district court date of April 17, 2013.
The Presque Isle Fire Department and Crown Ambulance assisted at the scene. Maine Public Service was advised of the broken pole and responded.
