Scouts and leaders from Troop 177 of Washburn took part in the annual Scout Show at the Aroostook Center Mall on Saturday, March 9. The troop’s exhibit was on “winter camping,” a subject that the boys are very used to. A makeshift snow dome was the setting for the booth that provided instruction on proper cold weather clothing and proper food and cooking for winter camping. Troop 177 joined several other troops from the North Star District for the day-long events that started with a parade of Scouts through the mall to the Veterans’ Wall. A ceremony was held to honor those veterans on the wall and from the area.

The WDHS Drama Club participated in the 2013 Maine Principal Association’s Northern Regional Drama Festival on Saturday, March 9, at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. Their cast performed a play titled “Heinz’s Wheel of Doom,” written by cast members Darbie Koch, Kolby Koch, Keagan Page and Daniel Roy. This is the play’s synopsis: The scene is a modern game show named Heinz’s Wheel of Doom, hosted by the illustrious and rather conceited host, Heinz Mustard. Contestants vie for the ultimate prize of a lifetime, a trip to the Bermuda Triangle where the winner won’t be the only one who turns up missing.
Cast members and their roles included: Savannah White played by Taylor Howe, Heinz Mustard played by Keagan Page, Beth Finafanafrin played by Darbie Koch, Lizzy Dizzy played by Kolby Koch, Anderson Von Snivington III played by Daniel Roy and Heidi Smilie played by Kayla Farley. The play was directed by Mrs. Robin Thurston. Technical director was Mr. Kevin Grass. Set design, lighting and sound design was by Tanya Tarbox.
WDHS won a special commendation for Spirit of Theatre: From Creation to Production. Daniel Roy was selected to the all-festival cast for his acting ability.
