HEBERT, Margaret B., 92, MARS HILL, at Caribou, March 23, 2013. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at a later date at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill.

     MARS HILL – Margaret B. Hebert passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, at the home of her son, Athill, in Caribou, following a brief illness. Born November 17, 1920, in Mars Hill, Margaret was the only daughter of Don and Jennette McCrum. Her childhood was spent there surrounded by her parents, three brothers and a large extended paternal and maternal family.
    Following graduation from Aroostook Central Institute in 1938, she attended and graduated from Maine State Normal School in Presque Isle in 1941. She then began her teaching career in the Mars Hill system where she taught for two years and then moved to Connecticut to participate in the war effort where she met and married her husband Albert.
    Following the war, they returned to Mars Hill where they raised their family and established a residence which she maintained for the rest of her life. After her children were born, she eventually resumed her teaching position in Mars Hill. During this time, she attended classes at Aroostook State Teachers College and was awarded her bachelors degree. She eventually retired in 1982.
During her retirement years, she and Albert enjoyed traveling, visiting family and spending winters in Bradenton, Florida.
    She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s parish in Mars Hill were she participated as a Eucharistic Minister and Sunday school teacher. In addition, she volunteered at the Walter T. Hanson Memorial Library, the Mars Hill Food Pantry and other civic organizations. She remained active in the Maine Retired Educators Association and always looked forward to their meetings.
    She enjoyed baking desserts, pies and orange rolls for her children and grandchildren. Most especially she loved attending the Central Aroostook High School basketball games which she did until age 91 and was honored as a “Number 1” fan.
    Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Albert; brothers, Phil and Don; and daughter-in-law, Lucinda. She is survived by her children: son, Athill and his friend, Sandra Huck of Caribou, son, Albert Jr. (Joe) and his wife Pamela of West Danville, VT, daughter, Mary Watson and her husband, Gary of Saco, ME; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Delbert of Presque Isle; close cousin, Penny Hickey of Mars Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service in celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at a later date at the Duncan Funeral Home in Mars Hill, ME. A notice will be published. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Albert J. and Margaret B.
