SASWCD to host training session for loggers, foresters

On Tuesday, April 9, from 6-8 p.m., the Maine Forest Service and Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a training session for foresters, loggers, and woodland owners on the new statewide standards for timber harvesting in the shoreland zone.

The goal of the new standards, effective Jan. 1, 2013, is to have a single set of standards for timber harvesting operations in shoreland areas that will apply throughout the state, replacing current multiple jurisdictions. The class will be held at Houlton High School, room 34 with Tom Whitworth and Dan Jacobs of the Maine Forest Service as presenters.
Continuing education credits for QLP and CLP are available. For more information, please contact Jacobs at 441-4128 or the Southern Aroostook SWCD at 532-2087, x3.
