To the editor:
I live on the Drews Mills Road near Drews Lake side, and you may live on the other side of Bangor Road near Hodgdon; I still consider you my neighbor, we live in a small town and we are not that far apart! Our per capita is still under 1,000. I also like to think that your interest in the town is the same as mine.
Many of you already know or have an idea of how our local government works and many of you are tired and angry of what you have seen year after year. You may not have known before but you do now, you are far from being alone in feeling your voice and vote don’t mean a thing. It’s supposed to be a joint effort on the part of the town manager and the selectmen to make the right decisions in the best interest of the town as a whole. Well, as a whole, we are the town. More and more I’m convinced that making a concentrated effort to listen to one another is the only way we can get an accurate picture of what’s happening in our town. It’s also the best way for all of us to work towards solving problems and also to generate many more great new ideas. I think this is very crucial for the successful future of our town.
We know in our mind and in our heart what should be said and done, getting our points across, clearly, convincingly, and eloquently or professionally could be another story. How many of us are skilled at bringing out these thoughts in a discussion, and if so, how many are skilled listeners. I’m convinced that talk is valuable, but listening may be even more valuable.
By now you must know that I’m running for a seat on the board of selectmen and I would very much like to have your vote, but before you vote for anyone, I challenge all of you to challenge all who would be running on what their reason for running is. They should be clear on this, and what their interests are in our town. Find out if they have questions or concerns for our town and maybe give them some of yours to find out where they stand. I ask you now for your vote, so I can help all of us make our town a success in the present and future. Remember no idea is too small and nothing is too big for us to handle!
If you have questions or concerns for me or if you would like to know a little of my background, e-mail me at Debjoe347@hotmail.com. I’m also on Facebook where you can post on my wall.
Thank you and hope to see you on Monday, May 6 for your vote.
