MAPLETON — This Mother’s Day will be especially meaningful for Taryn and Ben Everett as the Mapleton couple is preparing to welcome their firstborn into the world next week.

“My due date is May 13 … the day after Mother’s Day,” said Taryn, 26. “A few months into the pregnancy I got to looking at the calendar to see what day of the week May 13 was, and I realized, ‘Oh, it’s the day after Mother’s Day. Maybe he’ll be born on Mother’s Day.’ MD-EVERETTS-DCX-SH-19 That would be kind of cool.”
As the couple awaits Brock Matthew’s arrival, they say they’re looking forward to being first-time parents.
“We are very excited, but I’m not really nervous,” Taryn said. “I’ve felt great throughout the entire pregnancy; there have been no complications. It’s been a wonderful experience.”
“We tried to plan as best as we could,” said Ben, 28, “and tried to set ourselves up years ago to bring ourselves to the point where we were able to do this, and now here we are.”
The Everetts, who will celebrate their second anniversary Aug. 20, have known each other since they were kids.
“We were high school sweethearts,” said Ben. “I’m from Fort Fairfield originally, but we moved down to East Millinocket when I was little. Once my father was laid off at the mill in the late ‘90s, we moved back to The County, but I’ve known Taryn since elementary school in East Millinocket.”
Taryn is now a physical therapist at TAMC, while Ben is the supervisor of ambulance services for Crown Ambulance.
“It helps that we work for the same employer,” said Ben. “TAMC has received our situation really well and has been very flexible with letting us both go to appointments. They always find a little spot for me to sit and let me know exactly what’s going on step by step. It’s been great.”
“We’d like to have more children,” Taryn said. “We’ve talked about it and if we have a girl the next time that might be it, but if we have another boy we may try again. We’d like to have two or three.”
So whether baby Brock arrives a day early or even a few days late, Taryn said this Mother’s Day will be particularly special.
“This is the greatest gift that we could have for ourselves and for our parents. For them this is their first grandchild — on both sides of the family — so in that aspect I think it’s wonderful, too. It’s really kind of special that we’re having our first one at Mother’s Day,” said Taryn.
“It’s important to remember that we celebrate Moms once a year,” Ben said, “but truly being a Mom is a 365 day a year job. We’re looking forward to being parents which is the most important job you can have.”
