CARIBOU — Youth who would like to learn more about running and other facets of fitness will have an opportunity to do so by attending Little Musterds Running Camp, which is being held on behalf of the Aroostook Musterds Running Club over seven weeks beginning June 6.
The camp is for boys and girls currently in grades 3-7.
“The Musterds are taking a grass roots approach to engaging our youth in Aroostook County,” said camp director Evan Graves. “We want to provide structured fitness, with a focus on increased cardiovascular endurance, a healthy lifestyle and nutrition.”
Graves was a cross country standout at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and is a member of the UMPI Athletic Hall of Fame. He serves as a physical education and health teacher at Caribou High School and is active in road racing. Graves has participated in several marathons over the years.
Every session of the running camp will take place at the Caribou High School track.
A healthy snack will be offered and water will be available for all the participants.
Sessions will include running form, games, fun races, stretching and some trail running. Each week, students will receive a small participation item.
The program will meet June 6 and 13 from 3:30-5 p.m. and on June 20 and 27 and July 2, 11 and 18 from 3-4:30 p.m.
The cost is $5 per session or $30 for all seven sessions. Students signing up for every session will receive a program T-shirt.
