Waste turning up in many places
To the editor:
Re. the Star-Herald story on garbage last week, I have noticed in recent years especially this year that on the roads I travel usually east of Presque Isle a serious increase in all sorts of misplaced garbage alongside back roads, also have witnessed many animals (seagulls, raccoons, groundhogs) trying to free their way out of netted/mesh-type onion bags and other discarded refuse that can entangle.
For several weeks this spring a large white shredded plastic bag flew from one of the eagle’s nest I keep watch on. There are whole pick-up loads in some areas (one just behind my property last year).
But the recent leafing out of vegetation will help hide much of this from our municipal leaders who may not realize how serious an issue this is. Certainly not all of this can be blamed on recent Presque Isle waste disposal changes but one would have to be quite naive to think these changes haven’t contributed.
