Saul Nunez retired all 21 Fort Kent batters he faced last Tuesday to become the first Presque Isle pitcher to throw a perfect game since 1982.

Nunez, a junior, struck out 11 batters and needed to throw only 69 pitches in the 4-0 victory.
“He pitched a beautiful game,” said his coach, Tim Olore. “He was ahead in the count on almost every batter.”
Olore said Josh Gordon, Ben Buckley, Karson Wilcox, Jonah Stephenson and Tyler Seeley made key plays to back up Nunez’s performance and keep the perfect game intact.
Offensively, Corey Belanger hit a three-run double in the fifth inning to lead the Wildcats. Scott Rhynold had an RBI single earlier in the contest.
But it was Nunez who was the hero.
“When he is pitching well and we back him up with offense and defense, he is very capable of beating any team we face,” Olore said.
