Andrew Gumprecht, Bryce Roix and Cameron Hartford, pictured from left, show off their project at the Washburn Middle School Science and Health Fair.

On Thursday May 16, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students at Washburn Elementary School participated in the Middle School Science and Health Fair. This event gave the students an opportunity to explore a topic in the area of science or health that was of interest to them. The educational benefits of participating in a Science and Health Fair are numerous, as students develop skills in research, writing, oral presentation, creative thinking and problem solving. The event was a huge success with projects ranging from polymers to diabetes.

Congratulations to Carmen Bragg, Washburn District High School’s Student of the Month for June. Carmen is a very high achiever in her class and is looked up to by many underclassmen and upperclassmen alike. If you ask any teacher about Carmen, they will be quick to tell you that she is a very hardworking individual and a joy to have in class.
She is this year’s secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of her class, part of the Varsity Club, takes part in various sports and also will be class marshal for the graduates of this year. Carmen always has a smile on her face throughout the day and is a very deserving candidate for student of the month.

Last day of school

Tuesday, June 18, will be the last day of school this year for students in the Washburn school system. Let’s watch out for children in town and have a safe summer.

POSTER PRESENTATION — Washburn High School Assistant Principal Ron Ericson and Tracy Reed the Washburn senior advisor, are pictured accepting the prom poster given to the school by Steven Boddy.

Tia Dee and Sean Sperry showed up to the Washburn Senior Prom with some interesting footwear. Kelsey Dean of KD Photography was on hand to capture the image. Steven Boddy of KC&Company DJ services added the Henry David Thoreau quote to the photo “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” Steven ordered the picture in poster size and presented it to the school, where it will be on display.
