HIV Testing Day

To the editor:
National HIV Testing Day is Thursday, June 27. This year’s theme is Take the Test. Take Control. National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) was established as an annual observance to promote HIV testing.

This is a particularly important time for you to get involved! Take the Test, Take Control. There are several opportunities for you to get tested on National HIV Testing Day.
Aroostook County Action Plan (ACAP) will offer walk-in, no cost testing at their Health Service locations in Fort Kent and Presque Isle from 8-11 a.m. and in Houlton from 1-4 p.m. on June 27, 2013. For more information call Jo-Ellen at 554-4128 or 1-800-432-7881.
Too many people don’t know they have HIV. In the United States, nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV, and almost one in five don’t know they are infected. Getting tested is the first step to finding out if you have HIV. If you have HIV, getting medical care and taking medicines regularly helps you live a longer, healthier life and also lowers the chances of passing HIV on to others.
ACAP was founded in 1972 and provides services and resources that help individuals and families achieve greater economic independence. As a leader or in partnership with others, ACAP provides guidance to the community in responding to emerging human needs. For more information on ACAP or to make a tax-deductible contribution, please call (207) 764-3721 or visit www.acap-me.org. ACAP- We make life better!
