• One of the most interesting places in Caribou for strangers to visit is the fish hatchery and fishing station. D. E. Johnson is the right man in the right place and the station is being constantly improved.
• Prof. Olof O. Nylander returned this week from a trip to Ashland and vicinity after fossils and brought home with him a nugget of pure gold found in the sand near a brook running into the Aroostook River.

• Heroic teen — Carolyn Theriault, six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Theriault fell from the trestle into six or seven feet of water in the Caribou Stream and probably would have drowned but for the quick thinking and action of 14-year-old Pamela Stubbs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stubbs. She rushed into the stream, and swimming strongly, managed to reach the Theriault child and bring her safely to shore.
• Serving up shortcake — Plans for a big strawberry feast in Caribou, probably on July 12, are underway with the Kiwanis club. Mass servings of old-fashioned strawberry shortcake to shoppers and other persons downtown is what Kiwanians are planning on the idea that a good helping of shortcake, plus coffee, milk or soft drink, along with one or two other food items, can easily constitute a full meal.
