77 run in S.W. Collins race
CARIBOU — The annual S.W. Collins 5K Road Race was held June 23 and the event, the third in the County Challenge Series, featured a competitive field which saw four runners break the 16-minute mark.

A LARGE FIELD OF RUNNERS line up for the start of the S.W. Collins 5K Road Race, held June 23 in Caribou. P.J. Gorneault of Caribou and Gabrielle Naranja of Fort Kent won the overall titles.
P.J. Gorneault of Caribou defended his title by finishing in 15 minutes and 23.3 seconds. He was followed by Spencer McElwain in 15:37.56, Russell Currier in 15:49.86 and Kris Freeman in 15:53.11.
The first-place female was Gabrielle Naranja, whose time of 19:04.92 put her 19th overall. The women’s runner-up, and placing 25th, was Gabrielle Cyr in 19:58.5.
A total of 77 runners competed. Age division winners were: 14-and-under female: Madelaine Johnston, 20:44; 14-and-under male: Dillon Beckum, 16:34; 15-18 female: Isabel Gerencer, 23:39; 15-18 male: Dustin Ramsay, 17:43; 19-29 female: Cyr; 19-29 male: McElwain; 30-39 female: Nicole Hanscom, 22:11; 30-39 male: Freeman; 40-49 female: Sarah Dominick, 22:24; 40-49 male: Jeff Ashby, 17:46; 50-59 male: Leo Kashian, 18:43; 60-69 male: Brent Jepson, 24:59.
There was also a walker’s division, which had six participants. Jennifer Cyr of Presque Isle placed first in 47:03, with her son, David Cyr, ending up five seconds behind.
