Houlton 9-10 squad eliminated
The Border League 9-10-year-old all-stars are 2-1 in District 3 double-elimination Little League play in Orrington, while the Houlton all-stars were eliminated.
In their most recent game, the Border League all-stars edged Sebasticook, 17-16, to eliminate them from the tournament. Border League’s Jacob Ritchie picked up the win and stroked two doubles to drive in two runs to back his own cause. Supporting Ritchie offensively was Silas Graham with three doubles, two singles and six RBI. Josh Foster doubled and tripled to drive in two runs, while Austin Winslow doubled twice for two RBI.
Border League trailed 11-7 heading into the fifth inning. They scored seven runs in the bottom of the frame and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
With that win, Border League was scheduled to meet Orono-Veazie in a do-or-die game for them yesterday. If Border League wins, they will play again today at 3 p.m. in Orrington.
In their first game of the tournament, Border League overpowered Bangor East, 13-3.
Silas Graham rapped two triples and a double, while Foster belted a home run and Ritchie tripled to back up winning pitcher Trevor Schools.
In their next match up, Border League fell to Old Town, 12-0. Graham doubled and singled, while Brock Thompson added a base hit.
Old Town’s Zack Dill threw a three-hitter, with five strikeouts.
The Houlton 9-10-year-old all-stars had a rough go in the District 3 Little League tournament, dropping two quick games.
In their first contest, Houlton was shut out by Old Town, 15-0.
Tanner Evans of Old Town picked up the win in both teams’ first outing in the tournament.
For Houlton, Collin Moody, Elijah Matheson and Drew Foley each singled.
Houlton took on Bangor East in their next game and was defeated 17-4, as Nolan Hodgkins doubled and Moody singled.
Playing for the Houlton all-stars were: Moody, Matheson, Haven Hanning, Aiden Hanks, Kurtis Reynolds, Nate Tuttle, Hodgkins, Jay Tuck, Braden Dow, Foley, Sebastian Torrey and Gage Bartlett.
