On July 18, 2013, we will meet in Forest City to discuss “Destiny of the Republic – A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President” by Candice Millard. Millard describes the career of James Garfield, who was elected president without running, and then died unnecessarily, after being shot by a deranged man, because of medical ignorance. This book was suggested by Heather Zakupowsky and Pam Taylor.
July 25, 2013, finds us in Danforth to review “The Nine Lives of Charlotte Taylor” by New Brunswick author, Sally Armstrong. Recommended by Judy Saunders, the book is a fictionalized account of Armstrong’s ancestor, who was the first English woman to live in the Miramichi area, around the time of the American Revolution.
