The KVHC Casey White Memorial Scholarship Committee has named Marie Sanderson of Blaine as the recipient of the 2013 Casey White Memorial Scholarship. The Katahdin Valley Health Center Casey White Memorial scholarship was established in 2012 in memory of Casey White after his untimely passing. Casey had returned to college after years in the workforce to pursue his licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Sanderson is a second year nursing student at Northern Maine Community College who, like Casey, chose to change her career goals, go back to school and pursue a nursing degree. The award of $3,000 (renewable annually) is based on scholarship criteria including her commitment to the area that KVHC serves, and her commitment to returning to school after being in the work force and pursuing a health care related degree. She is the mother of a young child, and hopes to continue her nursing education with the goal of someday becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner (like Casey White).
