Reunion committee plans meeting
MARS HILL NEWS

There will be a meeting of the ACI/CAHS reunion committee Monday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library. Plans are being finalized for the Aug. 8-11 reunion.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met June 25 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. Rotarian Milton Adelman spoke to the group about the decision made by his daughter, Toby, in California to donate a kidney.
Toby donated her left kidney to Marc Klein, a retired editor of “J” magazine, who suffered from kidney failure. His next step would have been undergoing dialysis three times a week unless he received a donated kidney. The waiting list for a deceased-donor kidney could be up to eight years.
After the news went out in an e-mail blast, as well as on Facebook about Marc’s situation, Toby, a devoted reader of “J”, made the decision to donate one of her kidneys. In June 2012, Marc was a man with a healthy new kidney. Toby didn’t inform her family about the transplant until a couple of days prior to surgery, after the final tests were done.
A few short weeks after the surgery, Toby was back to all her usual activities — biking, swimming and more. Klein is feeling better and better all the time. The two remain close and touch base often.

After the bell
In observance of the Fourth of July, there will be no activities this week. Please join us — parents, kids, families, everyone. The bus is leaving Main Street at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. Cost is $15 a person. We will be walking in the Miracle Mile in Houlton; all money raised will be used to help find a cure for pediatric cancer.
Anyone wanting to walk the one-mile, downhill walk for McKenna and Maggie may join us! We will be stopping at Uncle Willy’s Candy Shoppe after the walk, so please bring money for a sweet treat. Any questions, contact Jamie at 227-7194.
There will also be no activities the week of July 8 as Wilderness Day Camp will be in session. Please contact Alex Bourgoin for more information at 425-2471 about Wilderness Day Camp.
Bridgewater Historical Association
The BHA would like to inform everyone that there will be no music at the hall on the Fourth of July. We thank everyone who has been attending and look forward to seeing all of you the following Thursday. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the sounds of “OUTSIDE IN” Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m. There is no cover charge, however, donations are greatly appreciated as they help keep this event and the hall in operation. Refreshments are available at the hall.
We are still collecting items for our Yard Sales. If you would like to make a donation, please contact any member of the BHA or call Jann at 425-7901. Please no clothing or electronics.
We are planning to hold a canine cop demonstration in the near future at the hall. So keep your eyes open for updates on this and other events at the BHA hall. Thank you all for your support.
