A grand celebration — July 4th witnessed one of the best celebrations ever held in Houlton. In honor of the Day every place of business was decorated with bunting and flags and every residence displayed the National colors. The crowd was all good-natured and the absence of intoxication was especially noticeable. It is estimated there were at least 5,000 out of town people here to celebrate.
Chief Whitney had his entire force of patrolmen on duty. The streets leading to the park were kept sprinkled by the Street Dept. Early trains brought visitors from all directions and band concerts greeted them from Market Square and Monument Park.
