CARIBOU — On Sunday at approximately 8:21 a.m., the Caribou Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Vaughn and South Main streets in Caribou.
According to CPD Police Chief Michael Gahagan, Dale Corbin, 66, of Caribou, was operating a 2011 Can-Am three-wheeled motorcycle southbound on Main Street when he was struck by a 2006 Ford Explorer operated by 64-year-old Deborah Nichols of Cross Lake. Nichols was crossing Main Street onto Vaughn from the Caribou Superintendent’s Office parking lot.
Corbin, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered injuries to his head and chest. He was transported to Cary Medical Center by Caribou Fire and Ambulance and was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center. At presstime, Corbin was in the EMMC ICU, but an update on his condition was not available.
The accident is being investigated by Officers Jay Trainer and Matthew Cummings of the CPD. They were assisted at the scene by Maine State Trooper Robert Flynn and Caribou Fire and Ambulance. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
