MARS HILL NEWS
by Tomi Henderson
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, July 9, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. Karin Petrin, Mars Hill’s town manager, was inducted as the newest Rotarian.
New Assistant District Governor Floyd Rockholt introduced District Governor Pat Perry. Pat extended greetings from Rotary International President Ron Burton, whose slogan for his year is “Engage Rotary and Change Lives.”
Pat spoke to the club and challenged all to help with a final push to irradicate polio, which is now an airborne virus. There are only three countries left that have cases of polio still breaking out: Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Bill Gates is again stepping up to the plate with a pledge to double whatever Rotarians raise – up to $35 million.
Oct. 24 is World Polio Day.
