Halfway Home Pet Rescue has several tiger striped cats all ready for adoption. All adult cats over 6 months of age are spayed/neutered with all age appropriate medical care completed. For cats who’ve been in the pet rescue for 30 days or more, they’re free to a good home during the rest of July. If they have been with HHPR for less than 30 days, their adoption fee of normally $40 will be reduced to $20 until Thursday, Aug. 1.

Young kittens under 4 months have a reduced adoption fee of $40 (down from normally $55) this month and they go with a prepaid spay/neuter voucher and all age appropriate medical care. The pet rescue currently has over 80 kittens and cats in need of loving and responsible homes. The rescue will be open for adoptions on Thursday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. during July for the Caribou’s Thursday on Sweden Street activities. “Big happy news about our young 12-week-old kitten, Evelyn, who underwent surgery two weeks ago for a seriously broken leg — she’s making a good recovery,” said HHPR President Norma Milton on Monday. “I shall be picking her up at the hospital today and we are happy they were able to save the leg.” Assisting the shelter with their veterinary bills are programs including the recycling of shoes, ink cartridges and returnable bottles. HHPR earned $2138 through their beef drawing, pig, barbecue, tent and painting drawing. Winners of the raffle were: Susan Collins of Caribou, a side of beef; Randy Holton of Presque Isle won 1/2 of pig, Jen Albertson of Presque Isle won the other side of pig, Carol Pierson of Caribou won the barbecue, T. McHatten of Caribou won the 5-person camp tent and Heather Hutchins won the cat painting. Rescue volunteers offered thanks to Tom Drew for donating the organically grown beef and pig, Anne Price for donating the barbecue and painting, and Rob Lawless of Houlton for donating the tent.
